Free custom firmware for the ZimaCube 7th Bay LED module. Colours that survive power cycles, forty-seven flow effects running on the chip itself, and a full dashboard served straight from the device.
One decision,
then the fun starts.
Stock firmware runs the strip. Vantic makes it yours — 47 flow effects, colours that survive power cycles, and updates that land over the air forever after.
Forget the files.
Flash from this page.
The old process was: download three .bin files, open esptool-js, pick the right addresses, erase, upload, pray. Now there are two routes: plug in over USB-C and press one button — the flasher handles every step, including the post-erase boot-loop drama — or, once Vantic firmware is on the bay, update cable-free from the device's own hidden update page with a single tap. Stock firmware is included too, if you ever want to go back. And v3.4 is the current release: 47 colour flows, a fully reskinned dashboard and live state sync — every update after this one lands over the air.
The three big ones.
The short answers. The help page has the full triage, ten deeper answers, and a direct line to Jake.
Is flashing risky?
Small but real. A failed or interrupted flash can temporarily brick the ESP32 — which is almost always fixed by erasing and re-flashing. You can always go back to stock firmware. Nothing is permanent.
Do I need the cable at all?
For the first flash from stock: yes, USB — it works from any state, even blank. After that, updates happen from the bay's own dashboard over WiFi, ~15 seconds, no cable ever again.
How do I go back to the stock firmware?
One click. Connect the chip with the flasher, pick IceWhaleTech stock instead of Vantic, and press Flash. Prefer the original hands-on method? The return-to-stock guide walks through the manual esptool-js process step by step.
